Mangalore Univ to have smart card, blood data bank soon

Mangaluru, Apr 10, 2015: Mangalore University Vice Chancellor Prof K Byrappa, informed that Mangalore University will introduce Smart Card and Data Bank from next year.

 Inaugurating a voluntary blood donation camp jointly organised by Mangalore University Blood Donors’ Group (MUBDG) , Communication Club, Department of Mass Communication and Journalism and PG students’ Council in association with Indian Red Cross Society, at University Health Centre here on April 9, Prof Byrappa said that the Smart Card would contain information including name of the student, address, blood group, attendance, and related details.  The ’Blood Data Bank’ would comprise a list of blood donors among students of the university and the same will be available in the administrative office and all departments, he added.

Stating that blood donation is a great service that one can do for the society and mankind, Prof Byrappa said that the University will always encourage a noble cause like blood donation. In his introductory remarks, Mangalore University Blood Donors’ Group Co-ordinator Prof G P Shivram stressed the importance of blood donation and said that besides reducing the cholesterol level, blood donation can also reduce the risk of cardiac arrest, hypertension and heart problems.  Though more than 100 donors including a large number of girl students registered their name for blood donation,  78 students donated  blood at the camp actually.
