Mangalore : Protest staged against attack on Karavali Ale staffer

Mangalore Feb 7, 2013 : The members of Karnataka Komu Souharda Vedike and PUCL staged a protest in front of the DC office here on February 7, Thursday  condemning the grievous attack on Harish Putran, a senior office staff of Karavali Ale, a city based eveninger.

Addressing the protestors, BV Seetaram, Chief Editor of Karavali Ale, termed  the assaulters as Taliban  forces.  He said this was not the first time that media people have been attacked. He  said the government needs to initiate stern action against attackers on media.


Blaming Hindu Jagarana Vedike for the attack on Harish Putran, he said  “Burning the copies of the eveninger and attacking the staffer, has brought in a sense of fear in the media.”  He further  urged the authorities to initiate strict action against the culprits and book them under non-bailable charges. He said even Press Council of India Chairman Markendaya Khatju has been informed about the attack.


 Ali Hassan, Convener of Muslim Central Committee said such attacks were taking place as the police fail to act. He also warned of severe protest if such incidents are repeated.


PB D’Sa, Vice President of PUCL, Suresh Bhat Bakrabail, President of Komu Sauharda Vedike and others took part in the protest.
