Mangalore: Pick-up truck carrying ‘stolen’ cattle attacked at Thumbay

Bantwal, Sep 19, 2014: A gang said to be Bajrangdal activists stopped a pick-up truck transporting cattle near Bantwal and attacked the driver of the vehicle at 8.30 AM, Thursday, September 19, 2014.

It is learned that the truck was on its way to an abattoir in Mangalore from Bantwal.  The vehicle was waylaid by the activists near Thumbay and the driver was attacked by the gang. The driver and the three others in the truck ran away leaving the vehicle and the cattle.


A police complained is filed at Bantwal alleging four persons identified as Ivan D’Souza, Tasleem, Basheer and Ashok who were transporting the cattle. The cattle were stolen from Vagga and being transported to an abattoir Mangalore without proper papers. The police seized the vehicle and a Motor bike from the spot.

Later, a counter complaint was also filed against the activists identified as Thilakraj, Prashanth, Umesh and others for attacking the transporters. It claimed that the cattle were bought from houses in Vagga and was being transported legally.

The Bantwal Police is investigating the case.
