Mangalore: Mahabala Marla elected Mayor and Kavitha Hoigebazar, Deputy Mayor of MCC

Mangalore, Mar 13, 2014 :Mahabala Marla of the Congress has been elected the new Mayor of  Mangalore  in  the  elections held at the MCC Auditorium on March 13, Thursday.

Marla, a three time corporator   bagged 37 votes as against 20 votes  secured by Tilakraj, the BJP candidate.  A total of 60 corporators and 2 MLAs participated in the voting process.  Five remained neutral.

Marla represents 22 Kadri Padavu Ward. He will be the mayor of Mangalore for the next one year period.

Congress chooses Mahabala Marla, Kavitha for Mayor, Deputy Mayor posts


Mangalore, Mar 13, 2014: Congress has come out with the names of its candidates for the mayoral election of the city being held later today.

Three-time councilor, Mahabala Marla, representing Kadri Padavu ward has bagged the nod of the party to contest to the post of the mayor. Kavitha Hoigebazar has been chosen to contest for the post of the deputy mayor.

Opposition BJP will be fielding Tilak Raj and Poornima for the posts of mayor and deputy mayor respectively, it is learnt.

Those chosen for the seats of chairpersons of standing committees are, Ashok D K (Waqf committee), Jacintha Albert (finance committee), Ashok Shetty (health committee), Purushottam Chitrapura,(accounts committee), and Shashidhar Hegde( chief whip). BJP has elected Premananda Shetty as the opposition leader.
