Mangalore: Low-lying areas flooded due to heavy rain

Mangalore, Jul 15: Heavy downpour continued in coastal Karnataka and flood like situation arisen in many places on Monday 14. The movements of vehicles were badly affected as flood waters flowing on the streets at knee level.

Water has entered several shops and business establishments in Jappinamogaru bypass raod, Ujjody and also in several places.

Several low lying areas including Netravathi Bridge area, Alekala near Ullal and Kallapu were inundated. The roof tiles of the Government school at Mahakali Padpu, Jappinamogru were partially damaged due to ghastly winds. In the incident a shed belongs to a bidi contractor J Ibrahim was also damaged and the cost of the damage estimated at Rs 10,000. The dwellers of this area are very scared to lead life here, as level of water not only increased but also entered into their house.


Rain damages 18 houses schools in Udupi District
Udupi(Thehindu): Eighteen houses and a school were damaged in Udupi district in heavy rain on Monday. Of the three taluks in the district, Kundapura recorded maximum damages.


According to the Kundapur tahsildar’s offie, 13 houses were damaged in different villages of the taluk. The roof tiles of the Government Model Higher Primary School were damaged at Uppunda and the damage was estimated at Rs. 40,000. Four houses — one each belonging to Annapa Kharvi, Nagappa, Bhavani Poojary and Gowri Poojary — were partially damaged at Uppunda village and the damage taken together was estimated at Rs. 12,500. Two coconut trees, two mango trees and a jackfruit tree were destroyed at Uppunda.


Three houses — one each belonging to Nagu Kottari, Gowri Poojary and Narayana Poojary — were partially damaged at Yelajit village. The damage to these three houses taken together was estimated at Rs. 15,000. Three houses were damaged at Bijur and the damage to these three houses taken together was estimated at Rs. 5,000.


A house each belonging to Bharati Madivala and Vasudeva Ganiga were damaged at Gopady and the damage taken together was estimated at Rs. 21,000. The house of Baby Poojarti was partially damaged when a tree fell on it at Hombady-Mandady village, and the damage was estimated at Rs. 5,000. According to the Udupi tahsildar’s office, three houses were damaged in Udupi taluk.


The house of Sundara was partially damaged at Yenagudde village. The damage was estimated at Rs. 15,000. Gulabi Sherigarti’s house was partially damaged at Mattu and the damage was estimated at Rs. 10,000.

In Kuthpady village, the house of Girija H. was partially damaged and the cost of the damage was estimated at Rs. 6,000.

In Karkala

Two houses were damaged in Karkala taluk, according to the Karkala tahsildar’s office. The house of Lalita was partially damaged at Nakre-Kukkundur village and the damage was estimated at Rs. 9,000. Nearly half the portion of Dinesh Shetty’s house collapsed at Nire and the damage had been estimated at Rs. 5,000.


According to the Control Room at the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Udupi, Udupi received a rainfall of 53.6 mm in 24 hours ending at 8.30 a.m. on Monday. Kundapur and Karkala towns received a rainfall of 66.6 mm and 110.04 mm, respectively.
