Mangalore Diocese launches cleanliness campaign ’Nanna Kasa - Nanna Jawabdari’

Mangaluru, Nov 2, 2014:  The Cleanliness campaign  organised by the Mangalore Diocese was kick started  near the Valencia Circle in the city on November 1, Saturday  with an oath-taking named ‘Nanna Kasa Nanna Jawabdari’(My waste my responsibility). Mangalore Diocese Bishop Rev. Fr. Aloysius Paul D’Souza inaugurated the campaign by eating a sweet and dropping the empty packet into his pocket.

Mangalore Mayor Mahabala Maarla administered the oath to the gathering. MLC Ivan D’Souza was present as a chief guest.

In his address, the Bishop said the people of the district who are known for their intelligence and enterprising nature should be a model to others as far as cleanliness is also concerned.

Mayor Mahabala Maarla who also spoke said the Mangalore City Corporation which stood sixth in the state as far as cleanliness is concerned, should now rise to the first position through such cleanliness drives.

He also congratulated the Mangalore Diocese for launching the Cleanliness drive simultaneously on behalf of 114 churches.

Programme Convenor  Fr Onil D’Souza who is also the Director of St Antony  Orphanage of Jeppu  said as many as 25000 parishioners from the 114 parishes under the Diocese have taken part in the cleanliness campaign.

A cleanliness pledge sheet was distributed to the participants to be circulated among friends till January 26, 2015. On Republic Day a winner will be selected by means of a lucky draw. The winner would be entitled for a gold coin weighing one sovereign.
