Mangalore Dasara extravaganza ends with mammoth procession

Mangalore, Oct 5, 2014: The Navarathri Mahotsava / Mangalore Dasara enthralled thousands of  a large section of people from all walks of life from far and near  celebrated for the last nine days with all pomp and gaiety at Shree Gokarnanatheshwara Kshetra here in Kudroli concluded with a grand procession of Shri Sharada Matha and Navadurga idols .

The Mangalore Dasara was inaugurated by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, displayed various religious rituals and cultural extravaganza during the last nine days.  Vagishwari Durga Homa, Shiva Pooja, Sri Devi Pushpalankara Mahapooja and Utsava were performed before the procession. The number of devotees was so large on Oct 3 that free movement of devotees was a slow march. MLA J R Lobo and many other dignitaries participated in the rituals.

Mamouth  procession on the final day of Mangalore Dasara October 4 : There were 14 tableaus sponsored by the temple and 40 had come from outside. Out of 14 tableaus, there were tableaus of Lord Ganapati, Brahmasri Narayana Guru and Navadurgas including an idol of Adhishakti in a chariot of lions. The Kerala governement Tourism Department had sent three tableaus- Theyyam, Snake boat and Mohini Attam. Barke Friends, Manjal Bailu, Mogaveera Friends, Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy, Sri Chamundeshwari Mahaganapati Yakshagana Mandali had other teams also exhibited their tableaus in the procession.

Along with this, a full fledged band ensemble of Bangalore youth, Band of 50 men from Gadag Bamma Sagara (Rona taluk), Chende troupe from Kerala, five sets of Nagaswara from Porkodi youth, 13 member team of Dollukunita from Sagar and four sets of Nagaswara of 20 members from Katapadi increased the richness of the procession.The 102nd Mangalore Dasara, was inaugurated by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on September 27, witnessed various religious rituals and cultural  in the last nine days. On October 4 evening , Vagishwari Durga Homa, Shiva Pooja, Devi Pushpalankara Mahapooja and Utsava were performed before the procession commenced. The Gokarnanatheshwara temple recently made headlines by appointing two SC/ST widows as priests.

Huge coloured  umbrellas on both sides of the street were added attraction of the procession. The procession which started at the temple continued through Kambla road, Ladyhill Circle, Mannagudda Road, Lalbagh, Ballalbagh, PVS Circle, Navabharath Circle, K S Rao Road, moved to Hampankatta. The procession usually finishs in morning,  the idols will be immersed in the temple pond as a grand finale.
