Mangalore Customs adds 2 new Patrol Vessels.

Mangalore, Dec 2: Two Fast Patrol Vessels Vessels costing Rs 3.5 crore have been purchased from Malaysia as part of modernizing the patrolling facility in New Mangalore Port. Out of the 15 vessels bought by the department all over the country, two have been geven to the Mangalore Comissionerate.

 


The



vessels have been purchased from Malaysia, costing Rs 3.5 crore each, supplied by Gold Bridge Engineering and Construction Berhad, Malaysia. The vessel has cruising speed of 30 nautical miles per hour and the crew capacity is 10.

According to the Customs Superintendent (Prevention) Shivaprasad,  the vessel can go on patrolling continuously for 3 to 4 days and GPS navigation system adds to its sophistication and safety of the vessel. However he said that the vessels are quite costly.
Patrolling to and fro Mangalore to Karwar (jurisdiction of the commissionerate) costs aver Rs 1.5 lakh,” he added.
 
The vessel has sophisticated rest room for the crew, kitchen, seating for 15 in it.  The vessels were Commissioned on Tuesday by Customs Commissioner R S Sidhu in presence of Coast Guard Commandant Padam Shekar Zha, CISF Deputy Commandant B S Vashisht and others.

Sidhu said that the need of the vehicle was felt after the 26/11 incident and coastal districts must be equipped with such vessels. He said that it will carry out patrolling in collaboration with the Coast Guards and the CISF
