Mangalore Central Excise & Service Tax Celebrates Central Excise Day

Mangaluru, Feb 23, 2017 : The Central Excise and Service Tax Commissionerate, Mangalore celebrated the Central Excise Day at its office premises on 23rd February, 2017 alongwith officers of Customs, DRI, Audit and DGCEI. Although the day is observed on 24th February to commemorates the enactment of the Central Excises and Salt Act in 1944, 24th being a holiday for Central Government offices, it was celebrated on 23rd February. As is the practice every year, a blood donation camp was organized on this occasion.

 

With the Government all set to implement the new indirect tax regime of Goods & Services Tax, the need of the hour is to be fully conversant with the changing  department’s profile and equip officers to adapt to the changed scenario. In this connection inhouse panel discussions were held on various aspects of department’s functioning with the advent of GST and how best to handle such issues to minimize transitory problems for the effective implementation of GST

Speaking on the occasion the Commissioner Dr. M. Subramanyam stated inter alia that change management is the crucial aspect and the officers are  encouraged to equip themselves to discharge their duties efficiently from the first day of implementation.  Highlighting the manner in which Central Excise & Service Tax administration adapted to several changes when self removal procedures and self assessment were introduced, he expressed confidence that the officers will exchibit similar approach in the new tax regime.
