Mangalore: Assembly Elections Victorious candidates speak out

Mangalore, May 8, 2013: “ My responsibility  has  begun now. I will work towards ensuring peace and communal harmony in the district,” said victorious Congress candidate of Mangalore South JR Lobo.

Attributing his victory by a margin of 11, 610 votes to the hard efforts of the party workers, Lobo said  he will henceforth ensure that strict action followed against law breakers and those resorting to moral policing.

Moidin Bava, the winning Congress candidate  from Mangalore North said his victory revealed that there was unity in the party. He promised to take up developmental initiatives in his constituency, including  an international sports stadium at Baikampady and commercial complex in Suratkal.

Mangalore Constituency winner U T Khader said the voters have chosen him as their representative  without getting distracted by the presence of a large number of independents as well as an SDPI candidate from the constituency. He also assured to find a permanent solution to the problem of sea erosion and also to solve the drinking water problem.

Moodbidri constituency winner Abhaychandra Jain of the Congress owed his success to the party  workers who have worked hard for his victory.  Pointing out  that his constituency had very few Jain voters, Abhaya said it was the works done by him in the previous terms that contributed to his win.


Reiterating that he was opposed the proposed ultra mega power project at Niddodi, Jain  said he would see to it that the project was not implemented.

Victorious candidate from Bantwal B Ramanatha Rai said the efforts made by RSS leader Kalladka Bhat to defeat him have been foiled by the people who have reposed faith in him. He said he would give priority to solving water problem in the constituency and also to maintain communal harmony.

Shakuntala Shetty, the winning Congress candidate from Puttur owed her victory to her political mentor Ram Bhat and Muttappa Rai. She said she was extremely pleased over the victory of Congress in Puttur  after two decades and said she plans to make Puttur a beautiful and peaceful town.


Vasanth Bangera from Belthangady was in a jubilant mood and said  he will take  chiefs of all local administrative bodies into confidence and prepare a list of developmental works that need to be taken up on a priority basis.

The lone BJP candidate who won from DK, S Angara from Sullia said it was the confidence reposed on him by the people that ensured a win for him the fifth time. “ I will see to it that voters do not repent their decision of electing me,” Angara said. On the slender margin of victory, he charged the Congress of luring voters with liquor and other malpractices.
