Mangalore : Airport Customs officials seize gold worth Rs 27 lacs

Mangalore, Oct 13, 2014: The officers of customs at Mangalore International Airport in another modus operandi busted gold smuggling and seized one gold bar, weighing 1,000 grams valued at Rs 27,10,000, concealed in the life jacket bag placed below the seat of the Jet Airways flight 9W531 which arrived from Dubai at 9 am on Monday, October 13.

The gold bar weighing one kg was brought by the passenger Madapalli Mammad Ismail, a resident of Napoklu, Kodagu, who arrived at Mangalore International Airport from Dubai.


Ismail boarded the flight and kept the gold below the seat. He has been arrested and produced before the judicial magistrate who remanded him to the judicial custody.

Krishna Kumar Prasad, deputy commissioner of customs, Mangalore International Airport, along with a team police team, led by superintendents HB Venkatesh, RS Venkataram, A Panduranga Naik, R G Gaonkar, K Ramakrishnan, K Nirmala and inspectors, Subhendu Ranjan Behera, Kamlesh Kumar Meena, Rajesh Jha and Havaldar Manjunath arrested the accused.

Further investigation is on under the guidance of the commissioner of customs, Mangalore.
