Sullia, Mar 14, 2016: Sullia Police have arrested an imposter who posed himself as a sub-inspector and tried to cheat the police themselves.
The arrested person is Udayakumar of Devangoor near Kottigehara in Moodigere taluk. It is said he posed himself to be a cop just to pressurise the police to hasten investigation into the case of suspicious death of a woman named Puttamma who was found dead in a pond a couple of months ago. Her son Girish had lodged a complaint with the police and Udaya Kumar who was a family friend had decided to extend help in an unusual way.
It is said Putamma, wife of Baremelu Narayana Gowda was found dead in a pond inside the plantation owned by her family on January 29. On noticing injury marks near the ear of his mother, Girish had suspected foul play and had informed his friend resulting in all the mess.
It is learnt, Udaya Kumar had accompanied Girish to the station and also to the DySP office several times when the former claimed himself to be an SI. However, Circle Inspector B S Satish who grew suspicious asked him to produce ID card when Uday Kumar admitted the guilt.
