Man trapped in cave while hunting porcupine, found dead

Kumble, Dec 01, 2018:  A man who had entered into a cave in his bid to hunt a porcupine and then went missing on Thursday evening at Balike near Dharmathadka, has been found dead. His body was  retrieved on November 30, Friday evening.

The deceased has been identified as Narayana Naika alias Ramesh (42) of Gumpe.

A labourer by profession,  he had  ventured into the task of hunting a porcupine after his duty  along with friends on Thursday evening.

It is learnt, he had  entered the cave with a nylon rope tied to his waste and had told his friends to pull him back as soon as he shouts upon finding the porcupine. However, when there was no word from  Narayana even after hours of wait the men informed the police and fire service personnel.

After a futile search on Thursday evening, search was resumed on Friday after widening the  tunnel. The body was retrieved by evening and  was sent for post mortem at the Kasargod Government Hospital.

The deceased is survived by his wife, a daughter and two sons.

Senior officials have visited  the spot of the incident.
