Mangalore Today News Network

Udupi, Mar 06, 2019: In an amazing case, a husband plotted against his wife and fabricated cheque bounce cases in different courts. The harassed wife has now approached the Human Rights Protection Foundation (HRPF) in Udupi seeking justice.

chequeHRPF President Dr Ravindranath Shanbhag told media at Vaikunta Baliga College of Law on march 6,  Tuesday that Mohammed Sharif Ali of Karamballi in Udupi married Jamsheena of Thalassery, Kerala, in January 2013, as per the wishes of both families.  Jamsheena trusted her husband to be a law abiding person and never suspected her husband’s intentions.

Dr Shanbhag informed that Sharif was never gainfully employed. Thus he used to often physically torture his wife and extort money from her. He even had taken away her gold jewellery.

Blank cheques  :  In 2017, Sharif forced Jamsheena to sign many blank cheques of savings account (SB account number 121101011003693) in Vijaya Bank, K M Marg in Udupi. When she demanded an explanation for signing blank cheques, Sharif seething with anger had beaten her black and blue.

From then on, she used to sign on blank cheques without even a murmur of protest. Jamsheena’s worst fears came true after learning that he had issued the cheques with the sole intention of landing her in legal trouble. None of the savings accounts had sufficient balance.

Now she is in a fix unaware how many legal actions she would have to face under the Negotiable Instruments Act (NIA) for no fault of hers. Jamsheena reveals being unaware about the status the signed cheques and whether Sharif had issued all of them to unsuspecting people.  Dr Shanbhag said the woman is being advised to file a complaint with Udupi SP.
