Mangaluru, Jan 16, 2021: Police have arrested one person in connection with the recent incident of setting afire a beef stall at Thokkottu. The arrested person is Nagaraj (37), a resident of Thokkottu Olapete.
This was informed to reporters here on January 16, Saturday by City Police Commissioner N Shashi Kumar. The Commissioner said the accused who stayed at a rented house with his mother, had purchased beef from the very same stall several times in the past and had consumed the meat at his friend’s house. It is learnt he had demanded the shop keeper to give him more meat for the same price which was turned down by the shopkeeper. It is said this had infuriated the accused who eventually set the beef stall afire, the Commissioner said.
It is learnt he had purchased kerosene oil and match box the same day and had come to Thokkottu at around 2 am on January 9 and set afire the stall and even informed his mother about it.
The accused is in police custody and has admitted his guilt, the Commissioner said.
DCP Hariram Shanker was also present at the press meet.
