Malpe beach with St.mary’s island to be a top spot for tourism by the month end

Udupi, Mar 6, 2015:   Chairing a development committee meet at DC Court Hall in Udupi,  DC  Dr R Vishal said that the steps have been taken to make Malpe and St Mary’s Island as top tourist spots.  He directed officials to have built in conditions in the tenders  to insure proper success.


udupi dc  He emphasised  history and significance of St Mary’s Island will be inscribed on granite plaques and the work has been entrusted to Nirmithi Kendra.   Cleaning works of toilets at Malpe beach has been handed over to self help groups and  organisations will be selected through a tender process.


Time frame fixed : Deputy Commissioner, meanwhile, fixed one week for the City Municipal Council(CMC) and Nirmithi Kendra to carry out works such as installing waste bins and benches on the beaches.

He instructed the health department officials to conduct raids on the shops and hotels on the beach, to check into the food hygiene.

Steps will be taken to collect the payment dues from the tourist boats ferrying tourists from Malpe beach to St Mary’s island, as per the conditions mentioned in the tender , according to Karnataka Land Tribunal Law, he added.  D C also directed Nirmithi Kendra to submit a proposal towards cleaning St Mary’s island.

Tender process will be carried out towards the development of Malpe beach, on the lines of Kapu, Trasi and Maravanthe beaches.   MLA Pramod Madhwaraj, committee Member Secretary and in-charge City Municipal Council Commissioner Manjunathaiah, Malpe CMC members and Arun Kumar of Nirmithi Kendra and so on were on hand to look into the development execution.
