Malpe Police station to serve tourists better

Udupi, April 16, 2016: Speaking at a meet at the Malpe beach, to hand over two motorcycles titled “Tourist Cheetahs” and a pickup truck from the Department of Tourism to the Malpe Development Committee and District Police.  Udupi MLA Pramod Madhwaraj, stated that the police station in Malpe would develop “tourist-friendly” services.


mla promodMLA  Madhwaraj said that the “tourist-friendly” police station concept would be implemented at Malpe on a trial basis. “Many visit the Malpe beach. It is only desirable to provide them with good security and better facilities. Presently, CCTV cameras have been installed at vital locations on the beach. Lighting at the beach has been improved. A walking track, was being developed at a cost of Rs. 24 lakh, while a small bridge was being constructed at a cost of Rs. 9 lakh,” he said.

Udupi district administration would soon be purchasing a beach-cleaning machine at a cost of Rs. 48 lakh.

This would improve the cleanliness on the beach. All the roads from the National Highway 66 and State Highways leading to Malpe beach were being developed at a cost of Rs. 5 crore to facilitate smooth flow of traffic, MLA  Madhwaraj said.

S.J. Kumaraswamy, Deputy Superintendent of Police, said that of the two motorcycles provided, one would be stationed at the beach and another near the Sri Krishna Temple.  Both the motorcycles had the Control Room telephone number (0820-2526444) painted on them so that tourists could get in touch with the police in case of any emergency.
