Malpe: 3 tourists washed away by strong tidal waves; 2 rescued; 1 drowns

Malpe, April 19, 2024: Two of the three tourists from Belur who were drowning in the sea at Malpe while making merry, have been rescued while one lost his life on Thursday afternoon.

 

The deceased is Girish (26). Santosh (24) and Harish (30) were rescued and are being treated at Manipal Hospital.

A group of 20 people from Belur had come to the beach after visiting Shringeri and Agumbe when the incident took place. A team of expert swimmers led by Eshwar Malpe immediately rushed to the spot and brought the three out. However, Girish died while being rushed to the hospital.
