Malls not eligible to charge for parking: DCP

Mangaluru, August 11, 2019: Malls are not eligible to charge parking fee from customers, DCP (Crime and Traffic) Lakshmi Ganesh K said on August 9, Friday.  The DCP was responding to  complaints at the police phone-in-programme organised at commissioner’s chambers. Vehicle owners were not keen to voluntarily pay parking fees.

DCP also said that malls in some other places were not collecting parking fees and a notification against collecting fee was being implemented in places. DCP Hanumantharaya passed orders to place barricades in order to prevent vehicle owners from parking their vehicles on footpaths.

A member of the public informed he feared for his safety while riding near Valencia, Talapady- Mahaveer circle stretch due to reckless driving by bus drivers. Hanumantharaya promised public that COTPA (Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act) 2003 will be strictly implemented and ensured that cigarettes will not be sold by shops located in the vicinity of colleges.

DCP Hanumantharaya sought the co-operation of the public to ensure peaceful Bakrid celebrations.

The police will take stringent action against those involved in illegal cattle transportation, he warned.

A majority among the 27 complaints received during the phone-in-programme related to buses deviating from scheduled routes, potholes on GHS road, indisciplined parking of tourist vehicles on Bejai new road, missing brake-lights in KSRTC buses, overflowing drainage near PVS circle among others.-

DCP (Crime and Traffic) Lakshmi Ganesh K said the police had sought details of footpaths from MCC with an objective to make the footpath pedestrian-friendly. “MCC is yet to share footpath details with the traffic police,” he pointed out.
