Make arrangements for malekudiya’s treatment at one point

Mangaluru, Aug 07, 2015:  Health and Family Welfare Minister U.T. Khader has told doctors at the Government Wenlock Hospital to hold talks with a private hospital treating Sundara Malekudiya for stomach cancer and make arrangements to treat him at one place.

 

 

Minister Khader said this following his visit to the Government Wenlock Hospital on Aug 6,  Thursday where the 48-year-old is being treated  on his right and left hand after injuries were inflicted by a weed-cutting machine.

Dr. Ghanashyam Kamat, the head of Orthopaedic Unit of the Hospital told the Minister  said the  injuries were very serious, efforts to mend damaged vein and repair the damaged tendons and nerves on both hands are done. We are keeping a close watch on his progress.  Dr. Kamat added it would require another eight more weeks to see the way injuries were healing.

Hospital’s Superintendent Rajeshwari Devi H.R. said the recovery process would be slow as  Malekudiya was undergoing chemotherapy for stomach cancer at a private hospital in Mangaluru. He had also been diagnosed positive for Hepatitis B. Due to administrative reasons the private hospital cannot treat him here for  cancer. Govt  doctors cannot go to the private hospital if he moves there.   Minister  Khader said the government would bear all expenses of his treatment.

DK Deputy Commissioner Adoor .B. Ibrahim took Government Wenlock Hospital authorities to task for collecting Rs. 200 from Sundara Malekudiya’s family members towards X-ray charges.

How can a below-poverty line card holder be charged when services should be free, DC  Ibrahim told Hospital Superintendent Rajeshwari Devi H.R. at a meeting held at the Deputy Commissioner’s office  Aug 6.  The hospital continues to charge disregarding  directions.

Dr. Devi said charges were collected as he was registered as a medico-legal case when he was admitted on July 26 and the BPL card was not produced. It is now corrected and no charges will be collected from him henceforth. 

Earlier Health Minister U.T. Khader took hospital to task for making   Malekudiya walk with out stretcher.  He asked nursing staff not to behave rudely with patients.
