Mangaluru, Mar 17,2017 :The District unit of the Mahila Congress staged a protest in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office on March 17, Friday to condemn the hike in the price of non-subsidised LPG.
Addressing the protestors, Ibrahim Kodijal, District Congress Interim President said that the Union government’s corporate friendly policies were however detrimental to the interests of the ordinary women. He also criticised the government for increasing the LPG price even when there has been a sharp fall in the price of crude oil in the international market.
Shalet Pinto, District Women’s Congress President charged the Prime Minister of not paying heed to the problems of the common man due to the hike in fuel and LPG prices. The BJP is interested only in grabbing power as is evident with it coming to power using money power in Manipur and Goa, she said.
Hilda Alva, Jacintha Vijay Alfred, former mayors and others participated in the protest.
The Mahila Congress members in order to protest against the LPG price hike also prepared tea using firewood. A street play was also staged.
