Mahatma Gandhi Peace Foundation celebrates Quit India Day

Mangalore, Aug 10, 2014:  Mangalore Mayor Mahabala Marla  speaking at a programme organised by the Foundation to commemorate the 72nd anniversary of Quit India movement at Tagore Park on August 9;  promised to extend necessary support for the welfare of city based Mahatma Gandhi Peace Foundation.

He said that he was aware of some of the demands of the Foundation and he would try his best to make them available.   Meanwhile, he advised the students community who were gathered on the occasion, not to be disappointed about the trials in life but to strive hard and sincerely to improve life all around.

Deshabhaktha Karnad Sadashiva Rao Memorial Trust President K Pramoda Shetty said that likes of Karnad Sadashiva Rao, Kayyara Kinhanna Rai, U P Mallya have contributed significantly for the freedom struggle. “Today we remember the Indian freedom struggle and Quit India movement, but sacrifices are often forgotten,” she said.

Song and essay contest was held for the school students. Over 100 students had participated in the competition.

Prizes as follows  :  Ladyhill Victoria Highschool, Urva and Ramakrishna English Medium School bagged the winners trophy in the contest held for Mangalore North and South blocks respectively.

Elocution  :  Shravya from Ladyhill Victoria School won the first prize from Mangalore North block and Swasthik Shetty from Ramakrishna School won the first prize from Mangalore South block.

Patriotic song competition: Vijeetha Ullal from St Aloysius Highschool won the first prize from Mangalore North and Nishan Rai from Ramakrishna School won the prize in Mangalore South block.
