Made in India ship - "Fugro Scout" launched at Malpe port

Udupi, Feb 24, 2015: India built indigenous vessel from Tebma Shipyards Limited (TSL), "FUGRO SCOUT", the state-of-the-art Geo Technical Research Vessel (GTRV) was lauched at Malpe. The India made advanced ship is designed to meet the competence of any other foreign vessel.
The main purpose of the vessel is to conduct research over the natural gas resources and rigs in the ocean. The vessel is powered by Diesel electrical propulsion systems driven by most modern Active Front end Drives for best fuel efficiency.
" Furgo Scout" is a mini-drill ship capable of extracting/mining soil samples up to 3 kilometres below sea bed, the vessel is constructed in accordance with the latest standards and regulations of Det Norske Veritas(DNV) and meeting latest International requirements governed by International Maritime Organisation(IMO). The ship can operate in all the oceans including Black sea, irrespective of the variations in the global temperatures. Oil exploration being the major purpose of the ship, it is to be registered in Panama and is owned by Dutch based FURGO Company.
It is equipped with a dual dynamic positioning station-holding capability (DP 2) symbolizing fail safe operation and is built to Comfort Class COMF-V (3) standards with living facilities for up to 60 personnel with high crew comforts.
The technically specialised vessel with many firsts to its credit is built at the cost of Rs 240 crore and is completely made out of ship quality steel. The time duration that was needed to build the ship was 18 months, and was into the water last month for trials.
The exclusively Malpe built ship comprises of dual consoles in the control room. The forward and aft control. The forward control is used for navigation, while the after control is used for dynamic positioning. The ship comprises of three floor accommodations, with 37 cabins.
The 4,500 tonne vessel with four square meters displacement, the ship with one-year warranty from Tebma has a state of the art engine room.
The engine room being the heart of the ship, wherein the four generators of 2000 kilowatts work together to generate power. Besides the drill towers positioned on the other layer of the ship is hydraulically controlled, which is connected to switch boards and the control rooms. The control room is fully computerised, which directs the stop, run and other engine movements.
The engine room also comprises of six thrusters. (A thruster is a propulsive device used by spacecraft and watercraft for atitude control ). Two of the thrusters work for main propulsion.
The ship can drill 3,000 meters from sea bed level and can be positioned anywhere in the ship.
The galley (kitchen) is patterned in the European format with a cold storage that works at -25 degree centigrade. The galley is fully electrical powered by diesel engines.
The FURGO project director Graeme Alexander said that the company has invested 120 million US $ on the project ( for two ships) and the 60 million US $ on the particular ship. The ship would go to NMPT to do the immigration formalities and later will go to Singapore and from there to Vietnam.
The company has arojects in Vietnam and later Iceland. The company has bought two Indian built ships, which includes the FURGO Voyager manufactured by Tebma too, purchased in December 2013.
Tebma operations vice president Aboobaker P said that as many as 300-350 people worked daily for the construction. The Tebma has already built 18 ships and ten have been supplied to Indian Navy. Four to a US company and one to a Singapore based company. Two have been constructed for Cochin Port Trust. He added another ship for dredging is being constructed for Indian Navy. Indeed this is a lead for "Make in India".
