Udupi,Dec 14, 2018: Paryaya Palimaru Mutt seer Sri Vidyadheesha Theertha Swami on December 13, Thursday took a historical decision by banning the practices of both ‘Made Snana’ (devotees rolling over soiled plantain leaves) and ‘Ede Snana’ (rolling over plantain leaves with prasadam) on the temple premises.

“I have taken a firm decision to ban both Made Snana and Ede Snana on temple premises as per the guidance of Pejawar mutt seer Sri Vishwesha Theertha Swami,” Sri Vidhyadheesha Theertha Swami told reporters on the occasion of Shashti celebrations organised at Subramanya temple inside Krishna Mutt.

The seer said both Made Snana and Ede Snana rituals were creating needless confusion among devotees.”Incidentally, devotees are not in favour of either Made Snana or Ede Snana,” he added and said the decision will put an end to all controversies.

The guidance was given by the senior seer. It was the senior seer who supported the idea. Initially, Made Snana rituals were conducted at Subramanya temple inside Krishna Mutt.

After a controversy erupted over the issue, a decision was taken to conduct Ede Snana in place of Made Snana. However, devotees had expressed displeasure to roll on prasadam and had preferred to roll on the bare floor (Urulu Seve) before the presiding deity. Pejawar seer lauded the decision and said that putting an end to the age-old tradition would not harm Hinduism in any way. Both Made Snana and Ede Snana were not required for religious practices.

“Besides, devotees coming forward to perform Ede Snana had also reduced sharply. Performing pujas was important and not controversial rituals. The Palimaru seer has taken a great decision and I welcome the decision,” he remarked.

Ram Mandir in Ayodhya :  To queries on the BJP’s debacle in the Assembly elections held in five states, the seer said Prime Minister Narendra Modi should now be concerned about the economic development of the country.

“The poll results are a warning. The prime minister should make up his mind to pass the ordinance and support the construction of Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. Then Hindu voters might support BJP and NDA,” he added.

He criticised the Centre’s demonetisation move and said the benefits of demonetisation had not reached the common man in any way.

“The PM should follow the policies of late prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. He must bond with political parties that share similar ideologies. BJP should not go against Chandrababu Naidu, who is hell-bent on destroying the party.  BJP will lose its relevance and the polls,” he opined.

“Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is not capable of becoming a PM. He is a sanyasi. Modi is an able prime minister,” the seer added.
