MU holds ’Open House’ showcasing varsity strength

Mangaluru, May 17, 2017: DK DC Dr K G Jagadeesha categorically said that Universities should prepare students to face contemporary challenges. After inaugurating ’Open House,’ a programme showcasing the strength of the University, at the seminar hall of the Management Block, Mangalagangothri, on May 16, Tuesday.

The DK DC said, "Universities have a duty to update themselves and conduct more and more research activities to inspire its students. Similarly, students should have passion for the subject they are studying and also be compassionate towards others. They should have the motivation to put heart and soul in their chosen fields,"

Dr Jagadeesha, went on to  lament  the over-dependency on the digital world in recent times.  University vice chancellor Prof K Byrappa said that the University is one of the top 25 universities in the nation. "The University is accredited ’A’ grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Committee (NAAC). It stands in the first position in the nation in Radiation Physics and second in Chemistry, after the Hyderabad Central University. Science departments are equipped with state-of-the-art laboratories," he stated.

The vice chancellor went on to say installation of CCTV cameras,  Solar streetlights are installed with the funding of the Ministry of Renewable Resources.

Showcasing strengths : The event, which is being organised for the third consecutive year, enables students and their parents to visit the University campus and get first-hand information about the courses and the departments.

Activities being carried out by the faculty, milestones and the important contributions of the departments, extramural funding from various national and international funding agencies, industries sponsored programmes and also avenues and opportunities after completing the course, were made known to students who want to join university campus.

Students also availed information on the post-graduate programmes offered by the constituent colleges of the University - University College, Mangaluru, University Evening College, Mangaluru, Field Marshal K M Cariappa College, Madikeri, and Mangalore University Post-graduate Centre at Chikka Aluvara.

The Open House programme will be held at Mangalore University Campus, Mangalagangothri, on May 17 as well. The application forms and prospectus are made available at the respective departments.

Registrar Prof K M Lokesh and Coordinator Prof T N Sreedhara were present on the occasion.
