MP Nalin tells officials to get their act together

Udupi, May 11, 2015:  Addressing the 23rd annual day of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi district association for handicapped, at Ravindra Kala Bhavan in Mangaluru on May10, Sunday, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel told officials to go to the doorstep of the needy to provide them the required facilities.


MLA directs temporary power for water supplyThe MP stated that many well planned schemes have been poorly implemented, owing to indifference and  negligence by officials. He said in many places, the government doctors have not been issuing certificates for the handicapped and the needy are made to wander from pillar to post, MP Kateel admonished that this kind of inconsiderate approach to handicapped should stop. He meanwhile called upon the specially able to utilise the Prime Ministers social security schemes.

Former minister Nagaraj Shetty said that the special schools in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts are not getting proper government funds and support. The  special teachers are not getting proper facilities from the government. He announced on conducting a state level fashion show for specially abled, to develop confidence among them. He went on to  urge government to hike monthly pension for these special people.

On this occasion, MLA J R Lobo said that other districts failed to implement welfare programmes for disabled as well as implemented in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi. The government will continue to provide facilities to institutions for the good of specially abled.

DK District-in-Charge Minister B Ramanath Rai promised to provide best benefits to the handicapped to help them into the mainstream.

Railway counter  : DK  and Udupi association for handicapped President Muralidhar Naik expressed displeasure that the railway reservation counter at the DC office has been shut for the past several months, due to lack of support by the officials of Palghat Railway Division. The reservation counter was started on the initiative of MP Nalin Kumar Kateel last year at the DC office.   The association for handicapped was given the opportunity for  management of the counter and specially able people were trained. But, the counter has been closed unceremoniously  owing lack of cooperation by Palghat Railway Division officials. Responding to the same, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel said that he will follow up the issue at the railway meeting to be chaired by him after the completion of parliamentary session.

Kshema Dean Dr Sathish Bhandary, KMC hospital Cardiologist Dr Narasimha Pai, District Surgeon Dr H R Rajeshwari Devi, Dakshina Kannada and Udupi association for handicapped President Prof Muralidhar Naik, district handicapped and senior citizen welfare officer Chandrika Nayak were present among others.
