Mangaluru, Dec 30, 2015: Congress candidate Pratapchandra Shetty and BJP candidate Kota Srinivas Poojary have emerged victorious in the MLC elections held for the two seats from Dakshina Kannada-Udupi constituency.
Pratapchandra Shetty secured 2,237 first priority votes while Kota Srinivas Poojary secured 2,977 first priority votes. As far as rebel Congressmen and independent candidates Jayaprakash Hegde and Harikrishna Bantwal are concerned, Hegde secured 872 first priority votes, while Harikrishna Bantwal got 127 votes.
Speaking to media men, a beaming Kota Srinivas Poojary attributed his win to the hard works put in by the party workers. Assuring to strive his best for the welfare of the masses, he also said all out efforts would be made to implement the Panchayatraj system report of Ramesh Kumar.
He further promised to make fullest use of the grants he would receive for the development of his constituency.
Counting process earlier commenced at the Victoria Girls Composite PU College at Ladyhill in Mangaluru apart from 19 other centres across the state. A total of 125 candidates including 60 independents were in the fray.
