MLC appeals govt. to upgrade Mangalore Passport Seva Kendra

Mangalore, Aug 27, 2014:  Addressing a press meet here August 26,  MLC Ivan D’Souza said that he has called upon the government to upgrade the Mangalore Passport Seva Kendra with a capacity to clear 1,000 applications instead of 350 at present.

ivan d’souza He said that Regional Passport Officer will visit Mangalore on September 10 to discuss about various problems pertaining to the centre. The issue of police verification certificate for the passport should be accelerated.


The State government is likely to approve the proposal for constructing Dakshina Kannada district administration complex at a cost of Rs 25 crore at Alape in Padil on the outskirts of the city. The CM in his budget had announced Rs 135 crore for six district administration complexes. “We have already submitted a proposal to the government and are hopeful of getting approval. If it is realised, then over 25 departments will be under one roof at the complex.”

Holiday on Sept 8  :  The elected representatives of coastal districts have urged the government to declare holiday for schools, colleges and government offices in the region for ’Monthi Festh’, Nativity of Virgin Mary, celebrated on September 8. “The Chief Minister has sought report from the district administration in this regard. We are hopeful of the government’s move.” The MLC said that the estimated cost of Ranga Mandira at Bondel has been escalated to Rs 25 crore from Rs 19 crore. The work will commence shortly. At the same time, Minister for Youth Empowerment and Sports Abhayachandra Jain has prepared a proposal to set up multi purpose sports complex at an estimated cost of Rs 1.69 crore at Urwa Marigudi.

The complex will come up on two acre land. A cricket ground will come up at Bondel, which will help in the development of outskirts of Mangalore.


M’lore- Kuwait flight from Oct 27 :  Air India Express will resume its Mangalore-Kuwait flight service from October 27. The flight will operate thrice a week on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from Mangalore to Kuwait via Bahrain. While the flight will land at Bahrain in its onwards journey, on its return journey it would arrive Mangalore directly.

The flight would depart from Mangalore at 7.30 am and reach Kuwait via Bahrain at 11.15 am. On the return journey it will depart from Kuwait at 12.15 pm (local time) and arrive here at 7.25 pm.

The Air India Express had suspended this flight service a few months ago. “I had submitted a memorandum to the Minister for Infrastructure development Roshan Baig, who in turn had impressed upon Civil Aviation Minister to restart the flight,” said MLC Ivan D’Souza.

By-election  : Expressing happiness over the by-election results, the MLC said that the Congress welcomes the people’s mandate. The voters have supported the propeople programmes initiated by the State government. He also deaalt with several questions.
