MLA Moideen Bava to move Supreme Court against NHAI toll gate in front of NIT-K

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangaluru, Jan 7, 2016: MLA of Mangaluru North constituency Mohiuddin Bava on Thursday January 7 announced that he will move against highway toll gate operating in front of NIT-K Suratkal.

Addressing a press meet, he said Suratkal toll plaza should be shifted. The toll gate is right in front of the premier national institution is unwarranted. Even though there was local opposition to this, the local BJP leaders pressurized the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) officials through the union ministers to set up the toll plaza in front of NIT-K. Along with the locals, I will question this in the Supreme Court and seek justice in this regard on behalf of the general public, he said.

No poll code violation
Mohiuddin Bava alleged that BJP leaders have been politicizing the opening of the Baikampady railway overbridge ignoring problems faced by the citizens in the name election code of conduct.

It may be recalled that on December 23, Mohiuddin Bava had reportedly ‘inaugurated’ the 300-metre overbridge without notice and thus paved the way for traffic. The move was flayed by the opposition BJP as code of conduct for MLC polls was in force at that point of time.

“I just removed the rope, which was tied to both sides of the bridge to block the use of the bridge”, Bava said.

The MLA clarified that as an ambulance was stuck in the traffic jam caused due to the overbridge work, he removed the rope just to pave the way for the ambulance and other vehicles. Then the bridge was thrown open for vehicular movement, he explained.

"This act is being criticized as ’violation’ of the code of conduct but the code of conduct does not imply for essential services like drinking water and healthcare etc”, he said.

The BJP leaders have been worried of slew of development works commissioned in the constituency. The bridge will be formally inaugurated in the coming days along with the MP Nalin Kumar Kateel and officials of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), he said.
