MCC to plant 1500 saplings this year : Mayor Kavitha Sanil

Mangaluru, June 5,2017 : Mayor Kavitha Sanil has informed that as many as 1500 saplings will be planted in all the 60 wards of Mangaluru in order to compensate for the several trees that have been axed  over the years to facilitate development and road works.

She was speaking after inaugurating the World Environment Day  programme organised by the City Corporation at Town Hall on June 5, Monday. The Mayor informed that  each corporator would be handed over 25 saplings to be planted in their respective wards.   The Environment Day celebrations must not be restricted to a single day but should be observed every day of the year, she added. She also requested the people of the city to join hands in the endeavour of the MCC in segregation of wet and dry waste

Earlier the Mayor administered the Environment Day oath to the participants and also released Swachh Mangaluru stickers.

MCC civic workers received insurance policy  for Rs one lakh as well as Health Cards.

MCC Commissioner Mohammad Nazir, former mayor Shashidhar Hegde, MCC Joint Director Gokuldas, Corporators Abdul Rauf, Shailaja, Nagaveni, Naveen D’Souza, Sabitha Misquith and many others were present.
