Mangaluru, Feb 13, 2019: Mayor Bhasker Moily has informed that the City Corporation has spent a total of Rs 403.5 crores on various developmental works in the past five years.
Elaborating on the various schemes undertaken by the MCC in the past five years at a press meet at Circuit House on February 13, Wednesday the Mayor said the MCC would lay more emphasis on making 10 services online at the earliest.
On the steps taken to mitigate water problem during summer, he said water is being stored at a height of six meters at the Thumbay vented dam and added that five affected families have been provided compensation. At the same time, he added that 65 families are yet to receive compensation due to some technical glitches.
Referring to water projects undertaken by the MCC, he said the government has sanctioned Rs 3.8 crores for the same. The Corporation on its part has spent Rs 3.87 crores and completed a total of 132 water projects, he added.
The Mayor stated that 134 houses of G3 category each costing Rs 7.5 lakhs will be provided for cleanliness workers of the Corporation. The MCC has completed construction of 32 houses, he said adding tender process is underway for the second phase works.
During the past five years, the Corporation bagged the "Open-defecation free City" title twice apart from a national award for effective handling of solid waste, the Mayor informed.
K Mohammad, deputy mayor, Mohammad Nazeer, MCC Commissioner, Praveen Chandra Alva, Standing Committee Chairman, Corporators Naveen D Souza and Shashidhar Hegde were present.
