MCC prepares for rainy days

Mangalore, June 1: Mayor Praveen Anchan said that the MCC has formed a special task force to deal with emergencies during the rainy season. He was addressing reporters at a press conference held in his chamber today.

Speaking about the special task force, he said that it will function even during the night hours and that an engineer will be appointment to supervise the activities of the task force.

The task force will be aided by the Home Guards, police personnel, Mescom, and the fisheries department and will be guided by assistant engineers.

The mayor also said that the MCC will de-silt all drains in Mangalore to prevent artificial flooding during the rainy season.

Speaking on the occasion, MCC Commissioner Dr. K. N. Vijayaprakash said that the civic body has requested Mescom to check roadside trees and prevent electricity problems. The civic body has arranged two cranes and sky lifters and two JCBs belonging to the National Highways Authority and the MCC to deal with emergencies. Boats, divers, and swimmers will also be available if required, he added.

He also said that the health department will take all required measures against infectious diseases and that the doctors of Yenepoya Hospital will provide medical assistance whenever required.

He also said that the civic body and the district administration have taken all the required steps to instruct private companies to take precautions regarding underground wire connection.
MCC members and Deputy Mayor Geetha Nayak were also present.
