Mangalore City Corporation’s (MCC) plan to introduce Namma Toilets comes against the background of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call to eliminate open defecation by 2019.

A team of officials from the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) has visited Chennai and prepared a plan to introduce the pay-and-use toilets in the city. The first ’Namma toilet’ was built at Tambaram bus station in Chennai in February 2013. It received a good response from the public because of its proper ventilation and availability of water and lighting.

MCC may need at least Rs 15 lakh for building one Namma Toilet built using FRP (Fibre Reinforced Polymer) and metal. MCC has decided to identify 52 places in the city for Namma Toilets. If everything goes as per plan, then the easy to install and clean toilets will be getting the council’s nod soon.
