MCC partially demolishes house; owners ready to sue

Mangalore, May 2: The MCC has allegedly demolished part of a house in Adimar, close to Gorigudda, on May 1, Saturday, on charges of illegal construction, without first verifying the required documents. 

Roopa Periera, the owner of the partially demolished house claims that it was constructed 25 years ago. The owners had paid the required penalty to legalize the construction as per the MCC’s akrama sakrama rules. Santhosh Periera, the owner’s son, confirmed his mother’s statements and added that a court case regarding the matter was still pending despite which the MCC has partially demolished the house. 

He also said that the MCC had served a notice to vacate a portion of the house, but had arrived even before they could respond to the notice. Santhosh said that the MCC gave them no time to inform them about the court case and the penalty paid as per the akrama sakrama rules. 

Moreover, the police forcibly lifted the woman from the house before the demolishing began. An MCC officer said that the house was constructed illegally and that a drainage line passes under the construction, owing to which the MCC had decided to demolish it.

The owners said that they would file a case against MCC on grounds of human rights violation.
