Four shops located in the basement of Oracle Towers have been demolished. This area was actually meant for parking. The owners of Oracle Towers had clearly marked the area as a parking lot while obtaining a license for the building. But the shop owners had not obtained a license from MCC before constructing these shops. Moreover, these shops also violated building regulations as per the National Building Code (NBC).

MCC said that it had organized the demolition drive in response to complaints that the shops were constructed without license and violated the NBC regulations. Owing to lack of parking space, vehicle owners were forced to park their vehicles beside the road, which made it difficult for pedestrians are motorists alike to move on the Balmatta – Jyothi road.

The commissioner said that similar demolition drives will be organized against 19 more illegal structures that have violated the NBC norms. Notices have already been dispatched to the owners of these illegal buildings in order to avoid any problem in the future, he said.

While the members of the public fully appreciated this demolition drive, which commenced in the morning, the owners of the illegal constructions were furious.
