Mangaluru, Dec 30, 2014 : The MCC meet held on December 29, Monday has resolved to widen a two-lane bridge near the Mahaveera Circle in a bid to ease traffic congestion in the area. The proposed widening is expected to cost Rs one crore.
MCC Superintendent Engineer and Deputy Commissioner (Development) B.T.Kantharaj informed that the Rs 100 crore special grant from the Chief Minister would be utilised for the project.
However, the decision to use the special grants for the bridge widening was opposed by Opposition BJP corporator Premananda Shetty who said the grant was meant for the new bus terminus at Pumpwell.
But Kantharaj said the grant would lapse if the same was not utilised during the current financial year.
City Mayor Mahabala Maarla who also spoke said the post of City Corporation Commissioner may be filled in January.
