MCC Plans to Install CCTV

The Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) will soon install closed circuit television (CCTV) in certain chosen areas within its premises in order to keep an eye on its officials, as decided at its monthly meeting. MCC requires the system not only to watch its employees, but also for security reasons.

The idea of installing CCTV was given by K. N. Vijay Prakash, the commissioner. The system would be installed in certain prominent departments of MCC such as engineering, town planning, and health sections. According to the commissioner, the official public interface is highest in these 3 areas.

The number of cameras that are to be installed is not yet known. The system, however, is to ensure that MCC officials are in their places during the hours allotted to them. The commissioner said that there have been many complaints from corporators and citizens alike that the officials are hardly available when required. The CCTV will help the commissioner to monitor the movements of these officials.

The television receiving images from the cameras will be placed in the office of the commissioner, who would have exclusive access to the CCTV. The privilege might soon be extended to the city’s mayor.

During the meeting, the commissioner stressed that all MCC officials had to be available to the public during the hours allotted to them, expect in case of emergencies. Accordingly, officials must be present at their seats or in their chambers every day of the week, including Saturdays, from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Stern action would be taken on officials who violate this rule.
