Mangaluru, April 24, 2015: The demand by a section of ruling Congress Corporators  to transfer MCC Commissioner Hephsiba Rani Korlapati seems to have once again echoed during Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s visit to Mangaluru today, April 24, Friday.

Sources say, the CM held talks  with some corporators and party leaders over the issue as soon as he landed in Mangaluru. The scribes had to therefore wait for nearly half an hour to interact with the CM.

Speaking to media men later, the Chief Minister said he has asked Urban Development Minister Vinay Kumar Sorake to handle the issue and sort out the same. Describing it as an internal matter, the Chief Minister said “The problem arose due to  misunderstanding between the Commissioner and Mayor.” However, the CM refused to say anything further on the issue.

When asked about the controversial Yettinahole project issue, the CM once again made it clear that it was not Netravathi Diversion Project. He further informed that the Yettinahole Project would supply water for drinking and other needs excluding industrial needs to Tumakuru and parts of Bengaluru, Kolar, Hassan and Chikkaballapura. The Mekedatu project will ensure water supply to Bengaluru Rural and Kolar, the CM said.

The Chief Minister further stated that the Government was always with the farmers and would respond to their problems. He appealed to farmers against taking extreme  steps like suicide. He also assured compensation of Rs 25000 per each hectare of crops destroyed in the rains that lashed the state on April 23.

On the social and economic survey (caste census), the CM said he has already held video conferencing with all the Deputy Commissioners and added that as per the deadline the survey should be complete by April 30. In case the census is incomplete, then the DC’s will be responsible for the same, he warned.

Mayor refutes reports : Meanwhile, Mayor Jacintha Vijay Alfred is learnt to have refuted the reports that said that she had some misunderstanding with the MCC Commissioner. Stating that there was no such misunderstanding, she added that corporators held discussions about developmental issues with the CM at the airport.
