Love Jihad Does Not Exist - Muslim Central Committee

24 October 2009

K S Mohammed Masood, former MLC and president of the Muslim Central Committee for Dakshina Kannada and Udupi said that Islam does not have anything called Love Jihad and that the movement that is currently making headlines all over the country has been created by vested interests.

At a press conference, he stated that the words “Love Jihad” have shocked the entire Muslim community and that they did not know how or where the concept originated. He blamed certain communal interests and said that they were bent upon tarnishing the image of the Muslim community. He also accused the media of siding with these communal interests. He said: “There have been no forcible conversions in Islam, which does not encourage forcible conversions. Even though somebody voluntarily wants to be converted into Islam, there is a legal process.”

Masood further said that he encouraged the punishment of all Muslims who are engaged in activities such as Love Jihad. He said that, in spite of the Karnataka and the Kerala Police stating clearly that there is nothing called Love Jihad, vested interests are creating disturbances.

He informed the press that the Muslim Central Committee would organize a convention to discuss these developments in November and that the heads of various educational institutions, religious leaders, and intellectuals would participate in it.
