Udupi , Sep 9, 2011 :The Lokayukta Police have nabbed Ravichandra K., the deputy environment officer of Karnataka State Environment Control Board, Udupi, for receiving a bribe of Rs. 12,000 from a businessman.
Ganesh A. Nalthur had applied for a no objection certificate to start a coconut industry called Nisarga in Yadadi – Mathyadi, Kundapur. He had paid Rs. 50,000 as fees to the Environment Control Board, Shivalli Industrial Area.
Since he was unwilling to pay the bribe of Rs. 15,000, which the officials concerned demanded, he lodged a complaint with the Lokayukta.
On Thursday, a Lokayukta team under the leadership of B. P. Dinesh Kumar and Thimmayya, arrested Ravichandra when he was in the act of receiving the bribe in his office, and produced him in court. Ravichandra has been remanded to judicial custody.
