Minister Parameshwara said that they had short-listed officers for the post. He went on to add that there was not much work in the SIT as the investigation into the illegal mining cases has entered its final stage.

Following the recent transfer of officials, the SIT did not have a head.

The State government on January 1 transferred K.S.R. Charan Reddy, who headed the SIT since February 2014, and posted him as Additional Commissioner of Police (Law and Order), Bengaluru. The government had posted Inspector General of Police Malini Krishnamurthy as the SIT chief but she was transferred as IGP (Internal Security Division) on January 8.

He said that earlier the decision to appoint the SIT chief was taken in consultation with the Lokayukta but this is not the case now as the Lokayukta post was vacant.

Earlier, Minister Parameshwara told presspersons that he was not unhappy after being assigned as the district in-charge Minister for Chikkamagaluru district by the Chief Minister.
