Local sports personalities felicitated at MU

Mangaluru, Mar 28, 2018: Students who have excelled in the inter-collegiate sports meet and also inter-university sports meet were honoured with cash awards, at Darpana 2018, at Mangalore University, on March 27, Tuesday.

Alva’s College, Moodbidri, won the overall championship in the inter-collegiate sports meet held during 2017-18 with 571 points, while SDM College, Ujire, won the second place with 430 points. Alva’s College of Physical Education won third place with 333 points.

Mangalore University Vice Chancellor Prof K Byrappa inaugurated the felicitation programme.

Arjuna awardee Sathish Rai said that those who excel in sports get good opportunities. Now, the students are given grace marks for excelling in sports.

Athlete and Arjuna awardee S D Eshana called upon the students to make use of the ample of opportunities given to them.

Prof K Byrappa released “The sporting spirit” and said that the university has been supporting sports. A total cash of Rs 14.84 lakh were given to the achievers on the occasion.

Alva’s College student Elakkiya Dasan received the highest cash award of Rs 1,12,000 for his achievement, including the establishment  setting a new record in the All India Inter university Athletics Championship.
