Lobo Prabhu couple memorial at World Konkani Centre on May 12, today

Mangaluru, May 12,2017: A news release states that the former Governor of Rajasthan and Uttarakhand Margaret Alva will install the granite busts of civil servant, parliamentarian, public thinker J M Lobo Prabhu and writer-musician Louella Lobo Prabhu, today may 12, Friday at World Konkani Centre, Shaktinagar. The centre is installing this bust in its entrance lobby in honour of generous grant of land by Lobo Prabhu family. Former Deputy Governor of Reserve Bank of India V Leeladhar will be the chief guest.

J M Lobo Prabhu was an officer of the erstwhile Indian Civil Service with a record of significant contributions to nation building. He was awarded a Coronation Medal by the King Emperor in 1937 for distinguished service in the United Provinces. He was one of the founding members of the Swatantra Party, under whose banner he was elected to the Lok Sabha in 1967 from the Udupi constituency, a rare record in this region of a candidate defeating the undivided Congress.


Louella Lobo Prabhu was a versatile and multifaceted personality engaged in the performing and creative arts. Hailed as a child prodigy in music, she placed Mangaluru on the musical map as a renowned concert pianist and composer of classical Western music. Having made a debut as a novelist in her teens, she continued to be a prolific writer of dramas, poems, articles and research works. She enjoyed a popular profile as a broadcaster on radio and television.


Giselle D Mehta, daughter of J M Lobo and Louella Lobo Prabhu, acclaimed writer and D B Mehta, chairman, Credai, Mangaluru will be guests of honour. Basti Vaman Shenoy, president of World Konkani Centre will preside over the function.
