Liquor shops attracting students, says teacher

Mulky, Sep 23,2017: Shifting liquor outlets from National Highway 66 to the interiors of Mulky is said to have given rise to a new issue making high school children addicted to alcohol.

During the weekly phone-in programme of Police Commissioner T.R. Suresh here on Friday, a teacher of a high school near Lingappayana Kadu said that liquor outlets have been shifted to near the school. Now, parents of some children asked their children purchase liquor from those outlets for them (parents). It has also made children addicted to liquor, she alleged.

A resident of the same area complained that those who consumed liquor created nuisance by relieving themselves near the school. The teacher asked Mr. Suresh to take action against those outlets.

Mr. Suresh said that he would bring it to the notice of Excise Department. If those outlets were unauthorised, then action would be taken to shut them down, he said.

To a question on the traffic problem when functions are held at the Milagres Convention Hall, Mr. Suresh said that notices would be issued to those running convention centres and marriage halls if vehicles of those attending functions at the venues obstructed movement of vehicles.

A caller from Thokkottu complained about hassles caused to pedestrians in crossing the road near Pandit House bus stop and demanded a speed breaker there. A resident from Pumpwell mentioned about traffic problems because of the closure of traffic on one way on the busy road between Pumpwell and Karavali Junction. A resident of Kodialbail said that parking of buses near the Karnataka Bank branch was causing problem to vehicles entering K.S. Rao Road from V.T. Road. Another caller sought action against those sleeping in bus shelters.
