Lightning claims 2 lives in Mangalore, Karkala

Mangalore/Udupi, Oct 26,2011:Two youth lost life and six sustained injuries when lightning struck them in Mangalore and Karkala on Tuesday.

 

lighting1The deceased have been identified as Naveen Y, a student of KPT in Mangalore and Ranjan (21) of Padukudoor in Karkala.

It was said that Naveen was walking on the road when lightening struck him. A delegation led by ABVP visited the Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda at Circuit House in Mangalore, to seek compensation to the family of Naveen.



The CM promised to pay a sum of Rs one lakh from CM Fund to the family.  The injured are Annappa and Ashok Naik in Karkala and Ganesh in Mangalore, Janardhan, Shekar and Sandhya at Beejaguri in Pajeer.

The house of one Ganesh Poojary was partially damaged in Miyar due to lightening. With heavy rains lashing the region, few houses have been damaged at Vittal on Monday late night. A tree was uprooted and fell on the house of Sesappa Gowda in Kallakatta. The electric wires in the house were damaged due to lightning. The house of one Moideen Kunhi developed cracks at Nekkarekadu in Vittal Kasaba.
