Life, culture here are ’Kannada’ in nature, Dr Alva

Mangaluru, Nov 16, 2018: Speaking at Kannada Rajyotsava celebrations organised by the Directorate of Students Welfare at Mangalore University, Alva’s Education Foundation (AEF) Chairman Dr M Mohan Alva said that Kannada language is part of our life and culture.  He also added that Kannada language has a long tradition.  Pampa, Ranna, Basavanna, Kanakadasa, Purandaradasa, Da Ra Bendre, Kuvempu and others contributed to its development. There is a need to understand the rich tradition of Kannada."


MohanAlva.Further, he said, "There is a wrong notion among parents that students studying in Kannada medium will not get lucrative jobs and will face challenges in a competitive world. Germany, Russia and China are world leaders though they haven’t given preference to English language alone."

"One should not have inferiority complex about Kannada language," he added.

Dr Alva said that the attitude of the government towards Kannada medium schools are sickening. The government should strive to save Kannada medium schools from getting closed. All the facilities should be made available in Kannada medium schools.

Columnist Dr Narendra Rai Derla said, "Dakshina Kannada district known for confluence of Kannada, Tulu, Beary, Konkani and Arebhashe languages."

In his presidential address, Mangalore University In-charge Vice Chancellor Dr Kishore Kumar C K said, Kannada Rajyotsava celebrations should not be restricted to the month of November alone. Kannada should become part of our life.
