Leopard entangled in wire rescued near Manipura

Udupi, July 20, 2017: Reports state that a male leopard aged just over 4 yrs, was rescued by the the Forest Department at Anjarkatte, Kuntalanagar, in Manipura village in Udupi taluk, on July 19, Wednesday. The leopard got entangled in a wire fence at Anjarkatte. The residents informed the department about the leopard at around noon. A task team from Forest Department came to the rescue.

Leopard 2Clifford Lobo, Range Forest Officer said that the leopard was entangled in a wire fence, and it was difficult to rescue it. Veterinary doctors were called to tranquillise it.

Three veterinarians reached the spot and later managed to tranquillise the leopard. Then, the staff of the Forest Department managed to free the animal  and place it in a cage and brought it to the Range Forest Office.

The official mentioned the leopard has minor bruises on its back and body due to injuries by the wire and it’s struggle to free it self. It came to consciousness in about 30 minutes after it was tranquillised. It was common for a leopard to roam in an area where there were bushes and shrubs. Normally, leopards came in search of prey, mostly dogs in the villages. The rescued animal is due to be set free in the thick forest.
