Udupi, April 19, 2016: Legislator Ivan D’ Souza demands Christians Development Board for the effective implementation of the schemes earmarked for Christian community.
Speaking at a programme organised to create awareness among Christians on various development schemes initiated by the government, the MLC stated that the Congress- led state government fot the development to the community.
He regretted that most of the government’s programmes catering to the minorities, especially Christians lapse owing to the incapability of the officials to reach out to be prescribed target.
He added that Rs 125 crore is realesd for the community in the current budget .Approximately, Rs 40 crore is leftover from the previous year’s budgetary allocation, he noted.
D’souza said Christians constitute 17per cent of the total minorities population in the district, their percentage in the state is 2.75 per cent.
He called upon the members of the community to avail the benefits of the government’s schemes.
The MLC said the funds released for the development schemes of the Christians community is Rs 584,27 lakh and the target reached is 2,351 beneficiaries for the year 2015-16 .
The development schemes include Shramashkthi, Kirusala, Arivu and housing loans.The target reached is Rs 692.34 kakh and the numbers of beneficiaries who were allotted financial aid is 3,343 last year, 815,35 lakh was released for 3322 beneficiaries under various welfare schemes.
