Mangalore, Sep 8, 2011 : The Sarvajanika Ganeshotsava was concluded with a grand procession on the night of September 7 Wednesday.
The idol of Lord Ganesha was taken in a colorful procession from Nehru Maidan and was immersed in a pond near Mahamaya Temple in the wee hours of September 8 Thursday.
A number of devotees participated in the Shobha Yatra, and one of them commented that this procession is second only to the Dasara procession of Gokarnanatha Temple, Kudroli.
Vehicles were prevented to enter the State Bank Circle so that people could participate in the procession easily.
The procession commenced at 8:00 p.m. and was accompanied by tableaux illustrating mythological episodes and dance sequences from popular movies. It moved through Hampankatta Circle and K. S. Rao Road. The Ganesha idol was worshipped at several places during the procession, which finally came to an end at Mahamaya Temple on Car Street.
Fortunately for the devotees, the rains stayed away.
