Landslip causes cancellation of trains in Konkan railway

Mangaluru, Aug 09 2018: Following a landslip on the track between Sirivagilu and Yedakumari stations in the western ghats, Yeshwantpur–Karwar Express (train no. 16515) was terminated at Hassan on August 8,  Wednesday around 10.30 a.m.

Railway officials made arrangements to send the passengers to their destinations by KSRTC buses. As many as nine buses were hired to accommodate around 500 passengers. The officials said restoration work on the track had begun.

Following the incident, train service in Hassan–Mangaluru–Karwar route were partially cancelled, according to a note from the Mysuru Division of South Western Railway.

Heavy rain in Sakaleshpur taluk has caused repeated landslips in the region, affecting movement of trains. There have been at least five such incidents since the onset of monsoon.       

While debris of the first landslip was cleared, that of the second was still being cleared, the release said. Consequently, Train No 16515, Yeshwantpur-Karwar tri-weekly Express too was cancelled between Hassan and Karwar, said a release from Konkan Railway Corporation. The landslips occurred between Shiribagilu and Yedakumeri on the Shiradi Ghat, the release added.
